Corona, CA (March 7, 2023) – Officials say a sedan traveling in the wrong direction on the I-91 Freeway in Corona collided head-on with another vehicle over the weekend, killing both drivers and wounding a passenger.

Early Sunday morning, right around 3:50 a.m., callers notified the California Highway Patrol troopers of a collision on the eastbound I-91 Freeway, east of the I-15 Freeway.

The CHP does not yet know why the incident occurred, but early reports indicate that a Honda Accord driven by a 24-year-old Bloomington woman was traveling west in the highway’s eastbound lanes.

According to CHP spokesperson Officer Javier Navarro, the Accord collided with a Toyota Corolla. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, and the Honda Accord’s passenger, a 23-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries. EMTs transported her to a local hospital, where she is recovering.

Officials in Corona are still investigating the incident’s circumstances and have not provided additional details.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the deceased victims. Our thoughts are with the injured woman in hopes of her complete recovery.
