Pedestrian Auto Injuries
The rate of pedestrian auto injuries in California is rapidly increasing. Close to 1,000 pedestrian deaths are recorded in the state of California every year, and almost 100 of those happen in Orange County alone. In 2021. These statistics account for 14% of auto fatalities involving a pedestrian in the entire country. Aside from the fatalities, it was reported that nearly 4,700 people are injured every year from pedestrian accidents in California.
While areas that are prominent with tourists in Orange County are decently safe for pedestrians, the same is not true for the local pedestrians. There is an especially higher risk for pedestrians who are simply walking to their places of work, schools, and shopping plazas. Places like Costa Mesa and Irvine prove this to be true. It is believed that the majority of these accidents could have been avoided if drivers did not participate in behaviors such as; reckless driving, lack of attention, or driving while impaired.
