California Truck Accidents
Due to their massive weight and size, traffic accidents involving large commercial trucks are dangerous and terrifying. The demand for truck drivers continues to grow alongside consumer demand. Our economy depends on the trucking industry, which puts a great deal of pressure on truckers to log more and more miles in shorter and shorter time periods.
This usually means that the conditions the truck drivers are working under are extremely stressful. Time constraints can leave them feeling exhausted, frustrated, and more prone to severe collisions. Truck wrecks are extremely dangerous, and if you or someone you love has been injured in a truck accident, you need the help of a skilled truck accident attorney in Los Angeles.
Every traffic collision is dangerous, but when a commercial truck is involved, the danger is multiplied by the sheer size of the vehicle. Semi-trucks are much larger and heavier than the vehicles that most of us drive, and they need much longer distances to stop. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) reports that a semi-truck at full cargo capacity traveling at average highway speeds on decent roads may take the length of approximately two football fields to come to a complete and safe stop. It is hazardous to be a truck driver, however, it is usually the occupants of the other, smaller vehicles involved in truck crashes who are most vulnerable to severe injury.
Statistics from the FMCSA reveal that in 2016, there were over 4,000 fatal traffic accidents in the United States that involved large trucks and buses led to more than 4,500 fatalities. These numbers are approximately 5% higher than the previous year. They also found that the occupants of large trucks make up 16% of all deaths that result from traffic wrecks involving large trucks and buses.
These statistics show that commercial truck accidents are not only often fatal but they are also much more likely to result in the death of other motorists involved. Fortunately, for injured victims and their families, a skilled truck crash lawyer in Los Angeles can help victims collect compensation.
