California Truck Accidents

Long Beach, CA - Martin Ojeda Killed in Big-Rig Accident on Atlantic Ave near Vernon StTraffic accidents involving large trucks are much different than other accidents. The average passenger car is approximately 20 to 30 times smaller than a semi-truck, which is a recipe for disaster if a traffic accident occurs. Additionally, semis are often carrying thousands of pounds of cargo. This can cause serious problems when small vehicles are involved in crashes with these large trucks.

When you or a loved one are hurt in a wreck with a semi-truck, it’s important to determine who/what caused the collision to occur. Unfortunately, semi-truck drivers are often exhausted and overworked. A study conducted by the American Addiction Centers found that the use of drugs and booze among truck drivers on the road is common and directly related to undesirable working conditions.

A total of 36 studies carried out between 2000 and 2013 found that some truckers used meth, alcohol, cannabis, and cocaine to get through grueling shifts. Up to 91% of the drivers interviewed between 2000 and 2013 drank while driving; meth use peaked at 82.5%, and about 8% of them admitted to using cocaine while on the road. Every single day, about 32 people die in the United States due to the actions of an intoxicated driver.

Commercial truck wrecks usually result in severe injuries that can cause lifelong issues or even death for victims. More often than not, people involved in collisions with large commercial trucks lose their lives.
