Newport Beach, CA (September 22, 2020) – One person lost their life after their involvement in a high-speed chase this past Sunday morning that occurred in Newport Beach.

The chase began when an Orange County patrol officer was attempting to make a traffic stop with a black Honda Accord that happened to be stolen.

The officer stopped the Accord at the intersection of Goldenwest Street and Ellis Avenue at approximately 5:35 a.m. The driver of the Accord failed to pull over when prompted to do so by police and continued driving at legal speeds at first.

Police chased the driver through downtown Huntington Beach before the driver accelerated their speed to over 100 miles per hour.

Police canceled their pursuit of the reckless and dangerous driver who finally crashed their vehicle, killing their passenger and becoming seriously injured.

Both occupants of the vehicle in pursuit were identified only as adult males. The driver is now facing criminal charges.

The stolen Honda Accord was stated to have been taken from Modesto, approximately 350 miles away from where the chase occurred.

No further details have been disclosed at this time.

We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.

A police investigation into the circumstances of the wreck will be carried out.
