Irvine, CA (August 23, 2020) – A woman was killed in a collision with an allegedly intoxicated driver on Saturday night, August 22nd. The fatal accident was reported at the intersection of Main Street and Culver Drive in Irvine at around 8:46 p.m.
According to officials with the Irvine Police Department, a white Ford F-150 collided with a black Hyundai Elantra at the intersection. The driver of the Ford fled the scene immediately after the crash and emergency crews were dispatched to the scene.
Medical responders transported a passenger from the Hyundai, identified only as a 20-year-old woman from Irvine, to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana. She succumbed to her injuries a short time later.
Police officers stopped the Ford a short distance away from the scene of the crash. The driver, identified as 40-year-old Antonio Calixto Navarrete, of San Clemente was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI, hit-and-run, and murder.
The incident remains under investigation.
