Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Mission Viejo

Mission Viejo, CA – Marty Mannani Struck & Killed by SUV on Marguerite Pkwy

Throughout 2014, authorities reported 753 pedestrians who were struck and killed by various vehicles all across the state of California with a 26% increase to 893 victims by 2018. Pedestrian accidents in Mission Viejo are at least partially responsible for these numbers, as well as collisions all over Orange County. Around 7,500 pedestrians were fatally hit by vehicles throughout the state between 2009 and 2018, causing a fatality rate of 25% more than the national average. While pedestrians account for only 14% of all traffic collisions, they make up approximately half of all crash-related fatalities.

The reason why pedestrians account for more deaths although only a fraction of collisions is due to the absolute defenselessness of the victim, as well as the role of reckless drivers. Negligent actions such as distracted driving, DUI, and speeding are among the top causes of catastrophic auto-pedestrian accidents. Another cause is the actions of criminal parties who intentionally strike victims for the sole purpose of inflicting harm. Losing a loved one in an unexpected collision that could have been avoided is one of the most traumatic experiences anyone can imagine, and it is essential for bereaved loved ones to fully understand that they likely have substantial rights during such a difficult time.

Serious accidents don’t only cause physical and emotional pain but also leave victims and surviving families with the immensely high costs of hospitalization, as well as continued medical treatment such as physical therapy in many cases, or funeral expenses. When a reckless or criminal party has caused the suffering of another person, that party must be held fully accountable for compensating the victims or bereaved loved ones. An aggressive pedestrian accident attorney in Orange County will go after the responsible party and help guide you along the frequently complicated road to financial restitution.
